Meals at Emerson College
Seasonal, biodynamic vegetarian meals rooted in land, rhythm and nourishment
Eat at Emerson
Meals at Emerson College are a central part of the on-site experience, offering nourishment that supports learning, retreat and community life. Prepared with care and shaped by the seasons, our food reflects a deep connection to the land and the rhythms of the College.
For lighter refreshments, visitors can also enjoy the Emerson Cafe, which is open to students, guests and the wider community. Serving tea, coffee, cakes, soups, salads and light lunches, the cafe offers a welcoming space to relax indoors or on the outdoor patio while enjoying the surroundings of the College.
From Seed to Table
At the heart of the Emerson kitchen is our biodynamic garden. Much of what we serve is grown on site and harvested at its peak, often prepared within hours of leaving the soil. This close relationship with the land allows us to preserve natural flavour, vitality, and nutrition, passing the goodness of our produce directly to our guests.
Meals are served communally, creating a gentle daily rhythm and a shared space to pause, reflect, and connect.
Mealtimes
Breakfast is served at 7:30am, lunch at 12:45pm, and supper at 6:15pm.
All meals at Emerson are vegetarian, with vegan and gluten-free options available when requested at the time of booking. We are happy to accommodate allergies and intolerances wherever possible; however, as our menus are led by what is grown in our biodynamic gardens, flexibility can be limited at short notice.
Our menus draw inspiration from a wide range of culinary traditions, including British, French, Italian, Spanish, German, Indian, Southeast Asian, and American comfort food. While influences are global, ingredients always lead. From breakfast onwards, you’ll taste the garden – including our own biodynamic apple juice, house-made fruit compotes, and, during the winter months, carefully stored biodynamic apples. Any ingredients sourced beyond the garden meet a strict organic minimum.
Sustainable kitchen
Sustainability is woven into every aspect of our food preparation. Meals are pre-booked to minimise waste, and composting plays an active role in supporting soil health and the ongoing vitality of the land. This thoughtful approach allows us to honour our produce, our environment, and your dining experience.

Book meals
Meals can be booked alongside accommodation for guests staying on site. If you are staying on campus, explore our on-site accommodation for courses and retreats to complete your visit.
