√2 grid systems and the Silver Ratio (with particular emphasis on one and two piece patterns from the Alhambra and Mughal jaali screens) – with Ameet Hindocha.
The Silver Ratio, though less well know than it’s shinier cousin, has similar mathematical properties and hence can be used to generate a highly flexible grid structure for pattern design.
Course participants will learn how to construct a master grid based on the silver ratio and √2 with Ameet Hindocha and will learn how to extrapolate numerous Islamic Geometric Patterns from it. Particular emphasis will be placed on the drawing out of simple but sophisticated one and two piece patterns from the magnificent Alhambra Palace in Granada, Sth Spain and the jaali screens and stone work of Mughal India.
