LIFEWAYS 2023

Striking the Balance

Sunday 23rd – Saturday 29th July 2023

A summer week for all ages with workshops, talks, stories, music and crafts

After a long summer’s day, the sun falling over the horizon can feel like a very special moment, a perfect image for a perfect time. Whilst the length of day and night changes throughout the year, we discover a rhythm through the different months, revealing the harmony between the seasons.

Striking the balance in life is more than the weighing and measuring of life’s primary concerns or placing them on a giant set of scales. We might initially think of striking a work-and-life balance, somehow contrasting one’s work with ‘real life’. We might think of balancing our inner and outer wellbeing or personal time and social commitments.

But we use the phrase striking the balance sensing that balance in life is not necessarily easy as it means personal intervention, a conscious effort to bring divergent forces into a coherent balanced whole. Strengthening the fulcrum point which lives within us all to help guide us through life.

Together we will discover what it takes to “Strike the Balance” through lectures, conversations, many craft and musical activities. Adults and children will all contribute to creating a rich new tapestry of knowledge and friendship during our Lifeways week.

Please look through the programme and then fill out the booking form and email it to naamah.pinkerfeld@emerson.org.uk.

Please choose ONE morning workshop and ONE afternoon group, which you imagine you’d be happiest in, for the duration of the conference. Please indicate this choice as well as your second-best choice on the application form with the appropriate number or letter. We will make every effort to honour your choices. At Lifeways, we encourage full participation. This ensures you will get the most out of this unique conference as well as experience and contribute to the “extended family” feeling often associated with Lifeways. Each evening there will be a programme with lectures and entertainment for adults. Babysitters will be available in all family accommodation enabling adults to attend. Children will be in a crèche or in the camp during the morning and choose ONE afternoon group for the duration of the conference. We offer parent and child groups for the little ones. Children share accommodation with their parents / guardians up to the age of 8. Children aged 9 – 14 stay on the camp. Children’s activities are age-appropriate; please take this into consideration when you book.
