Bi-annual IFAPA conference – In-person attendance
Emerson College, 26-30 June 2023
(1) continue to build the worldwide anthroposophic psychotherapy community,
(2) enable participants to improve their clinical practice using anthroposophic-Goethean research,
(3) develop research-based teaching in anthroposophic psychotherapy.
This conference is the second of a cycle of three research-focused Training the Trainers conferences. The cycle began in a modest way in 2021. Most of the participants had attended the three preceding IFAPA Train the Trainers conferences which were dedicated to broadening their training skills in anthroposophic psychotherapy. They had also attended internationally certified training courses in anthroposophic psychotherapy and were accordingly entitled to attend the Train the Trainers conferences.
In previous conferences there were limited places for other colleagues who were genuinely interested in, and/or carried the responsibility for, furthering anthroposophic psychotherapy in their country. So in 2021 we continued to open the conferences for these colleagues. For the 2023 conference they can apply for participation via their National Associations. The National Association will then nominate applications to be considered by IFAPA and will be responsible for communicating the decision to the applicant. The National Association will also inform Emerson College about those applicants who are entitled to participate. Our longer-term aim is to be inclusive and open.
The conference structure will have the following elements:
There will be two guest-speakers. There will be one lecture on research methodology by Professor Erik Baars on Zoom, comparing anthroposophical approach to mainstream views and one lecture on training the trainers by Dr Diethard Tauschel who will also be attending in-person and will also assist in our capacity to make clinical judgments about the emerging pathogenesis of clients.
There will also be contributions from IFAPA trainers: John Lees who specialises in case work research, Ad Dekkers, who has undertaken research into the outcomes of specific anthroposophical interventions and has developed accompanying intervention-exercises, Henriette Dekkers who has undertaken research into deepening anamnesis and diagnosis and the impact of the night on the inspiration towards healing. All lectures, exercises, introductions, and study-groups will introduce you to the research that anthroposophic psychotherapy colleagues into the evaluation of the efficacy and effectiveness of anthroposophic therapies and the principles of training the trainers.
All of you are undertaking research in your clinical practice and, as such, you are all practitioner researchers. The conference will specifically aim to prepare the ground for enlarging competences in becoming a research-based trainer.
